In February 2023, Corey's friend and neighbor hired an arborist to remove several large tulip poplar and black locust trees that were dangerously close to his home. Corey was offered the logs, and he eagerly accepted; he wasnt about to pass up the chance for mature, freshly cut hardwood. After the trees were felled, Corey spent many hours over the following weeks trimming the logs to size for the mill and hauling them to the sawmill site using his ATV, a 10-foot sled, and a significant amount of rigging. The majority of the logs were tulip poplar, a versatile wood for general lumber, but there were also several substantial black locust logs, which, despite their rugged appearance, have the potential to be crafted into something unexpectedly beautiful.
