Origin of the Specific Eastern Hemlock (Reclaimed) Wood Used

Sometime in the 1940s, George Lasley, along with his father, likely built a barn from rough-sawn hemlock. For decades, George used the barn to house livestock, primarily cows, and later repurposed it for storage. He maintained the structure until just before his passing in 1996. After that, the barn slowly fell into disrepair as the woods began to reclaim it. Over nearly 30 years, the forces of nature gradually tore the barn apart, turning it into both an eyesore and a potential hazard for anyone who ventured inside.

In the summer of 2023, during a trip to Michigan, Corey began salvaging boards from the barn that had not yet succumbed to decay. He returned during Christmas week to continue the work. Finally, in the summer of 2024, Corey and his dad completed the demolition of the barn, and Corey brought the last of the salvageable boards back to North Carolina.
